When is the only day this year that you can climb the Currituck Beach Lighthouse in the morning, shop the craft show at Whalehead at lunch and walk Corolla Village Lane under twinkle lights after dark? In 2026 it's Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
Two calendars cross that weekend. The lighthouse's 2026 climbing season began March 21 and ends November 30. Corolla's holiday events open the same weekend. Most of the year these two schedules never meet. For one Friday they share a few blocks of Historic Corolla, and for three more days after that, the lighthouse is still open while the village has already turned to Christmas.
The Lighthouse Has Four Climbing Days Left After Thanksgiving
The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 30. It closes for thunder, big storms and Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26 this year, so after the holiday the season has four climbing days left:
- Friday, November 27
- Saturday, November 28
- Sunday, November 29
- Monday, November 30, the last day of the 2026 season
A climb costs $13, and climbers must be at least 4 years old. You pay at the front of the lighthouse with cash, check or credit card. Advance and online tickets aren't available. Since you can't buy tickets ahead, the only planning that matters is the weather. The lighthouse opens "weather permitting," so a stormy day after Thanksgiving takes one of those four days off the list.
That makes these four days feel tighter than any stretch in October. If houseguests from Thanksgiving dinner want to climb, this is the last chance until the next season opens.
Friday Runs Three Calendars at Once
On November 27, the lighthouse's daytime hours overlap with two holiday events, one at Whalehead and one in the village. Here is how the day lines up, using the hours each organizer has posted:
- 9 a.m. The lighthouse opens for climbing.
- 11 a.m. The Annual Christmas Craft Village opens on the grounds of Whalehead in Historic Corolla Park, 1100 Club Road. It's free.
- 4 p.m. The craft show closes, and Corolla Village Christmas opens in Historic Corolla Village.
- 5 p.m. The lighthouse closes for the day.
- 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Santa reads holiday books in the village.
- 8 p.m. Corolla Village Christmas wraps up for the night.
The craft show happens on the same date every year. The Northern Outer Banks tourism site lists it as the "1st Friday after Thanksgiving annually." Vendors sell arts and crafts, fine arts, handmade cosmetics and baked goods, and food vendors set up on the grounds. It runs one day only, outdoors. Saturday has no craft show, so the full three-part day only works on Friday.
The 4 p.m. Handoff
The most useful hour on Friday is 4 to 5 p.m. The craft show packs up at Whalehead, the village event begins, and the lighthouse still has one hour of climbing left. All three are in Historic Corolla, so this is the hour when one plan turns into the next.
If you're working out the order, the posted hours settle it. The craft show and the lighthouse are both daylight-only on Friday, and the village runs until 8. Anything at Whalehead belongs before 4. A climb fits anywhere between 9 and 5. The village can wait until the light goes.
Parking is part of the handoff too. The Corolla Village Christmas FAQ lists Whalehead Club Park as one of its three event parking areas. If you've already parked there for the craft show, you're in one of the lots the village event points to.
What Corolla Village Lane Holds After Dark
Corolla Village Christmas is put on by The Kind Cup with sponsorship from The Northern Outer Banks. The event site lists it for November 27 and 28, 2026, and calls it two nights "under the warm glow of twinkle lights in the Historic Corolla Village." The lights and activities run about a quarter-mile along Corolla Village Lane, starting where Schoolhouse Lane meets it.
The tourism listing gives a detailed picture of the street. More than 30 local artists set up along it. There's craft hot chocolate and handmade photo booths, plus live music in the open dining court under café lights and at the Corolla Village Inn. Food trucks and local food vendors handle dinner, and a wreath-making station supports local charities. Children can write Letters to Santa and try a Reindeer Ring Toss. The event is free, and you don't need tickets. Santa has a marked station from 4 to 8 p.m. for photos and visits, and he does two book readings, at 5:30 and 6:30. The listing places those readings at the village bookstore. Island Bookstore describes its Corolla shop as sitting in Historic Corolla Village beside the chapel.
Behind the event setup are the village's regular businesses. The Corolla Village Inn's area guide lists them:
- Kind Cup Coffee & Art: coffee, local art and handmade items
- Corolla Village BBQ: eastern North Carolina pork barbecue, chicken and ribs
- Spry Creek: jewelry, pottery and handmade goods
- The Juice Jar: juices, smoothies, bowls, sandwiches and wraps
- The Beer Garden: an outdoor bar
- Corolla Wild Horse Fund: the nonprofit's wild horse museum and store
That guide describes what each place is, not its holiday hours. A business's regular schedule may not match the 4-to-8 event window, so it's best to check with the shop directly before planning dinner around it.
The Mansion Is Booked. The Street Isn't.
Whalehead holds its own evening event that weekend, and it's already full. The Whalehead Christmas Candlelight Tours run every Friday and Saturday from the weekend after Thanksgiving through December 19, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The Christmas in Corolla page now reads "All dates are sold out." The tours recreate the 1920s décor and customs of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Collings Knight, Jr.'s time in Corolla. Each one includes a live performance on the original Steinway piano that was custom-designed for Mrs. Knight.
So in mid-October, the Thanksgiving weekend evenings look like this. The ticketed tour inside the mansion has no spots left. The free street event a short way off has unlimited room and no reservations. If you're hosting family that weekend and haven't booked anything yet, Corolla Village Lane is still open to you, and so is the lighthouse during the day, since it never sold tickets ahead in the first place.
Parking and the House Rules
The event FAQ lists three parking areas:
- The Twiddy check-in building on Schoolhouse Lane
- Whalehead Club Park
- The 4x4 beach lot on Persimmon Street
The FAQ doesn't mention a shuttle. The Schoolhouse Lane lot is closest to where the event starts, since the lights begin where Schoolhouse Lane meets Corolla Village Lane.
The alcohol rule is simple. Anything a business serves has to be finished on that business's property. Open containers aren't allowed on the streets or in the walking area. If you order at The Beer Garden or the Corolla Village Inn, plan to stay there until you're done.
Late November also has relaxed beach rules for anyone driving north. Currituck County requires drivers to stay in the dune-adjacent lanes between mileposts 14.5 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but only from the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. Outside that window, drivers may use either the dune-side lanes or the shoreline. The county's beach-parking permit period runs from the second Saturday in May through the last Saturday in September, so it ended weeks before Thanksgiving weekend.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Saturday, November 28 drops the craft show but keeps the other two. The lighthouse is open 9 to 5, and Corolla Village Christmas runs a second night from 4 to 8. If Friday's weather or a houseguest's arrival time gets in the way, Saturday still gives you a climb in the afternoon and the village after dark.
Sunday and Monday are lighthouse days only. Once the village event closes Saturday night, the only regular public activity left from that weekend is the climb. It runs until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 30, and that's the end of the 2026 season.
